Foldwrap vs Tumult Hype / For banner producers

Tumult Hype alternative that starts from your Figma design.

Import from Figma. Get the animation draft. Deliver every size to spec.

Hype is a Mac app where you build HTML5 animation by hand on a keyframe timeline. Foldwrap imports your Figma frames into a browser editor, drafts the motion for the whole creative, and keeps every size together for review and export as HTML5, video, or GIF.

Pro: $49/month, 14 days free. Runs in the browser on Mac, Windows, or Linux.

Figma frame → animation draft → campaign sizes → export.

01 / The short answer

Build every banner by hand,
or start from the design?

Both export HTML5 banners. Hype gives you a blank stage and a timeline on your Mac. Foldwrap starts from the artwork you already approved: import Figma frames, or start from an AI draft or a blank canvas, and build the whole set in the browser.

Choose Foldwrap

“Our banners are designed in Figma. We deliver the set.”

  • You want an animation draft on import, not rebuilding the layout from exported SVGs.
  • Each campaign needs many sizes, and the next revision touches all of them.
  • Some of your team work on Windows, or you want to work from any computer.
  • You want a review link and platform-ready ZIPs with spec checks in one place.

Best fit: agencies, studios, and in-house teams with recurring campaign work.

Consider Hype

“We build interactive pieces, and we own the license.”

  • Your work relies on physics, scene-based interactions, custom actions, or your own JavaScript.
  • You make websites, infographics, or widgets as well as ads, and want one Mac app for all of it.
  • A one-time license and offline work matter more than a production workflow.

Foldwrap is not built for custom interactions or physics. If those decide it, stay with Hype.

02 / Compare the daily work

Foldwrap vs Tumult Hype

The difference is where the work starts, how many times you lay out the same banner, and what it takes to hand files to an ad platform.

03 / Where your work lives

A .hype file on one Mac,
or one creative for the whole set.

Pick the model that matches who makes the next revision, and on which computer.

Hype’s model

Every size is laid out by hand.

Hype has no Figma import, so artwork comes in as exported SVGs and images and you position it on the stage. Tumult’s banner guide suggests one scene per ad size in a document, exported one by one with Advanced Export (Pro). The document is a file on your Mac.

Click tracking comes from an ad-platform export script (Pro), or a clickTag function you add to the head HTML yourself. Hype works offline.

Hype 4.1 shipped in 2020. Updates since then are mostly bug fixes and macOS compatibility; 4.1.21 (June 2026) supports macOS 10.10 through macOS 26 Tahoe. Tumult says Hype 5 is in development, without a release date.

Foldwrap’s model

Every size is a variant of one creative.

Import from Figma, or start from an AI draft or a blank canvas. Build the sizes inside the same creative with AI resize, then adjust each layout. Copy approved motion to matching layers, review the set on one link, and export each size for its ad platform.

Autosave and version history keep earlier states. Download a .foldwrap source package to keep an editable backup. Foldwrap needs an internet connection.

Live examples

Open the editor
without installing anything.

Hype is a Mac download. Foldwrap’s editor opens in any modern browser: these finished banners load straight into it, no signup required. Play the timeline, select a layer, and change a headline or the CTA timing.

Or test the whole workflow on your own design. Import from Figma, see the animation draft, build the sizes, and export test files, free and without an account. Sign up only when you want to keep the work.

Hover to play. Open one in the editor and change something.

Want the files? Download a sample HTML5 ZIP (36 KB) or check platform specs.

Motion without the rebuild

An animation draft on import.
Final say stays with you.

In Hype you set every keyframe yourself, or record them as you move elements, with motion paths and easing curves. Foldwrap animates the whole imported creative automatically. Then adjust presets, timing, and keyframes until the headline, product, and CTA land where you want.

  • Copy motion to matching layers in other sizes.
  • Translate copy with AI and review each version.
  • Edit, resize, or generate images with AI requests included in your plan.

04 / What you pay for

A one-time license,
or a production workflow.

Hype costs less to own. If you make a few banners a year and lay them out by hand anyway, its one-time price is hard to beat. Foldwrap is priced for recurring campaigns, where import, sizes, review, and delivery happen every month.

05 / Start with one campaign

Keep your artwork.
Skip the rebuild.

Take a banner set you last built in Hype and import its original Figma frames into Foldwrap. Compare the result with your Hype export, then ship the next campaign from whichever needed less work.

Your side-by-side check

  1. Import the Figma frames behind a banner you built in Hype.
  2. Refine the automatic draft until it matches your approved motion.
  3. Build the other sizes and share the set on a preview link.
  4. Export for the same ad platform; compare file weight, click tracking, and spec checks.

No Hype import. Foldwrap does not open .hype documents or read Hype timelines, scenes, actions, or JavaScript. Start from your Figma frames or source artwork. Complex vectors and effects may arrive as SVG or images, so check them as you would after any import.

Your Tumult Hype
alternative questions

What is a good Tumult Hype alternative for banner ads?

Foldwrap fits teams that design banners in Figma and deliver them as multi-size campaigns. Import frames with the Figma plugin, start from an automatic animation draft, build the sizes, share a preview link, and export HTML5, video, or GIF for your ad platform. If your work depends on custom interactions, physics, or your own JavaScript, Hype remains the closer fit.

How is Foldwrap different from Tumult Hype?

Hype is a macOS app where you place artwork on a stage and animate it on a keyframe timeline. Foldwrap runs in the browser, imports your Figma frames, animates the whole creative automatically, and keeps every size as a variant of one creative, with version history and a hosted review link.

Is Tumult Hype still being developed?

Yes, but at a slow pace. Hype 4 came out in 2019 and Hype 4.1 in 2020. Since then, Tumult has shipped two or three point updates a year, mostly bug fixes and macOS compatibility; 4.1.21 (June 2026) supports macOS 10.10 through macOS 26 Tahoe. Tumult says Hype 5 is in development but has not announced a release date or features. Foldwrap runs in the browser, so every account always uses the current version.

Is Foldwrap cheaper than Tumult Hype?

No. Hype is a one-time purchase: $49.99 for Standard or $99.99 for Pro. Foldwrap Pro is $49/month or $468/year. Foldwrap is priced for recurring campaign production, where Figma import, automatic animation, sizes, review links, and platform exports replace manual setup.

Does Foldwrap work on Windows?

Yes. Foldwrap runs in a modern browser on Mac, Windows, or Linux, with nothing to install. Figma import uses the Foldwrap plugin inside Figma. Hype runs only on macOS.

Can I import my Hype documents into Foldwrap?

No. Foldwrap does not open .hype documents or read Hype timelines, scenes, actions, or JavaScript. Import the Figma frames or source artwork behind your banners instead: Foldwrap creates a new animation draft, which you then refine to match your approved motion.

Can Tumult Hype import Figma designs?

Not directly. Hype has no Figma importer. Designers usually export SVGs or images from Figma and rebuild the layout in Hype. Foldwrap imports Figma frames as editable text, shapes, and images with its Figma plugin.

Can Foldwrap make interactive ads like Hype?

Not in the same way. Foldwrap makes animated ads with click-through exits, including multiple exit links where the ad platform supports them. It does not offer physics, custom actions, or a JavaScript API. Hype is built for that kind of interactive work.

Which ad platforms can Foldwrap export for?

Foldwrap exports platform-ready HTML5 ZIPs for Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360, Google Studio, Adform, Flashtalking, The Trade Desk, Amazon DSP, and more, with preflight spec checks. Passing preflight does not guarantee platform acceptance.
